Kwara NULGE crises over as both factions agreed on a truce, election

The leadership tussle rocking the Kwara State Chapter of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees(NULGE) has been harmoniously resolved, as both factions came to a roundtable to discuss their differences and agreed to a truce so as to have a united voice for the workers they represent.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman, Comrade Kawu Atolagbe who led Members of its Executives and Comrade Oloruntade Ibikunle, the State Deputy President of the Elongated Executive who led their faction, unanimously agreed to conduct an election not later than Wednesday, 20th January 2021 with each parties nominating three (3) members each, while the Chairman Kwara State Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Umar Danladi Shero is to chair the Electoral Committee.

The meeting of the union was at the instance of the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq who is displeased by the crises which had been lingering for sometimes now.

The protracted crises which started from the previous administration and has crippled the activities of the union has now been laid to rest with the current truce reached by the factional executives.

The high powered arbitration committee which comprises the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Arc. Aliyu Muhammad Saifudeen, his counterpart from the Ministry of Justice, Lawyer Salman Jawondo, the Chairman, Kwara State Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Umar Danladi Shero, among other top government functionaries and relevant stakeholders in the local government administration, commended the factional parties for their sacrifices and for accepting to work together in the interest of their members and smooth local government administration.

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Arc. Aliyu Muhammad Saifudeen in his remark, reiterated the independence of the local governments administration without any interference of the state apparatus.

He noted that the dimension the Union's crisis had taken called for the intervention of the State Government through the relevant stakeholders with constitutional responsibilities to address and find permanent solutions to the inherited industrial unrest.

Arc. Saifuddeen appreciated those that participated in the success of the truce, noting that they would be remembered for contributing their quota in the development of Local Government System and the State at large.
