Court remands three suspected human part dealers

An Ilorin magistrates' court has ordered the remand of two herbalists, Jamiu Agbomola and Abiodun Lekan, and a bricklayer, Wasiu Kareem, in the Federal Correctional Service Centre, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The three accused, who were brought before the court for alleged sale of human parts for ritual purposes, were charged with criminal conspiracy and possession of human parts, among others.

The offences were said to be contrary to sections 97 and 342 of the penal code.

The Police First Information Report stated that one Shaad AbdulGaniyu reported at the Ganmo Police Station on November 2, 2020, that he saw Lekan leaving a locked house with a bag, which when searched, contained charms and bones suspected to be human bones.

The report added that Lekan confessed that the bones were for his master, Agbomola.

Agbomola was also said to have also confessed that Lekan was his errand boy.

The duo, as well as Kareem, allegedly confessed to the police that they had been in the business of selling human parts since 2018, adding that the parts "are usually sold to those who need it for N5,000."

The prosecutor, Seargent Adewumi Johnson, prayed the court to remand the defendants, saying police investigation was still ongoing.

But counsel for the accused, Mr Toyin Onaolapo, prayed the court to grant his clients bail.

The magistrate, Mr Abimbola Abioye, said the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

He ordered that the three men be remanded in custody, while the case was adjourned till December 10, 2020".
