#EndSARS: Kwara PDP attributes insecurity to negligence

Date: 2020-10-21

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Alhaji Alidodo Balogun, has attributed present rate of insecurity in the country to negligence and misplacement of priority by the government.

Speaking with Tribune Online in Ilorin on Tuesday, Alhaji Balogun said that negligence on human securities and high unemployment rate are the factors responsible for grievances among the Nigerian youths.

"These grey areas like food insecurity, social insecurity, religious insecurity, job insecurity, health, wage and remuneration, and widespread unemployment needed for a quick and positive solution from the government in order to give the populace a sense of belonging in their own country. Imagine law-abiding Nigerians living with fear in their own country, fear of what to eat, fear of shelter, fear of affordable and uninterrupted education, and fear of healthy job opportunities. These laxities on human security in Nigeria calls for an urgent redress," he said.

Alhaji Balogun, who said that security is everybody's business, however, added that overall coordination of the security architecture of a nation belongs to the government.

"When the government fails to do the right thing in other areas of human securities of the nation the physical security of that country will be at the receiving end.

"It is not surprising that members of the SARS who are supposed to protect the people from the assault of the criminal elements in the society are now the monsters that are threatening human rights of the people they are meant to protect.

"There is a protest in almost all the 36 states of the federation, yet, all that the National Assembly could do was debate on some petroleum industry bills which are meant to enrich pockets of some of their political businessmen.

"The time is now for our leaders to restructure Nigeria for a better present and a greater future, and our political class should be mindful of thwarting the future of Nigeria," he said.
