Kwara State Government has warned residents living in flood prone areas, such as riverbanks, to as a matter of urgency watch out for flood and evacuate their properties to higher place for safety.

The state Commissioner of Environment, Mrs Funke Julianah Oyedun who gave this warning today in her office, said that this was in line with the prediction by Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) that kwara is one of the states likely to experience floods this year.

Oyedun further said residents should desist from dumping refuse in water flow places to allow free flow of water in drainages which helps in curbing flood.

The commissioner assured kwarans that the Kwara State Governments was making strategic plans to minimize any flood disaster which may occur as a result of the current heavy downpour to avoid any loss of life and properties.

She noted that the state Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his quick response in desilting Asa river, which has gone a long way in mitigating the usual annual flood experienced in the past.

Oyedun therefore urged kwara residents to be conscious of their environmental health even as flood prediction comes,stressing that the welfare and well being of the people is paramount always and that the Government shall do everything possible for the progress as well as improve the good living conditions of the people.
