Gov Ahmed Commends FG on Flood Palliatives
The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has commended President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for the quick response of the federal government to the plight of victims of flooding which ravaged some parts of the country, including Kwara State.
Governor Ahmed was particularly appreciative of the federal government's gesture of N300million palliative fund to Kwara State which suffered huge flooding in Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas of the State where over 70 villages were affected and 16 villages submerged.
The Federal Government palliative, according to the Governor, is timely because it will complement efforts of the Kwara State Government in bringing succor to the affected communities in the State.
Governor Ahmed, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba, also commended the federal government for directing the Technical Committee to continue action on the flood issue and for setting up a high power National Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation to raise funds for the mitigation of pains associated with flooding.
According to him, "President Jonathan has not only played his role as Nigeria's President but demonstrated his empathy for affected Nigerians in their hour of need.
"With this quick response to the plight of our people, the people of Kwara state are highly delighted with the giant stride taken by the federal government towards the wellbeing of Nigerians", the governor added.
While assuring the federal government of optimum usage of the fund for the maximum benefit of people in the affected areas in Kwara State, Governor Ahmed stated that "We have constituted a committee to critically access the affected areas in order to justify the motive behind the release of the fund.
He therefore urged all the benefiting states to reciprocate the support by ensuring that the fund gets to the victims.
