Date: 2019-01-31

The Head of Minna Operation Unit of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in charge of Niger and Kwara states, Mrs Lydia Wagami Madu has stated that 1000 people from four communities in Kaiama, Kwara State attacked by bandits and internally displaced have been given relief materials worth several millions of naira. She said in an interview in Minna, that it was part of the efforts by the federal government to reduce the plight of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

According to her, the communities attacked by armed bandits are Woro, Nukku, Worumskoto and Tunganmaje. She revealed that the bandits carted away their farm produce, burnt their houses and killed members of the communities who resisted their attacks last year.

She explained that out of fear of further attacks by the bandits, members of the communities left their homes and seek shelter in other communities. "These communities are remote areas which forced the victims to leave their homes and seek shelter in other bigger communities out of fear of subsequent attacks," Madu noted.

Madu disclosed that the relief materials distributed were 600 bags of rice, 200 bags of beans, 300 bags of Garri, 300 kegs of vegetable oil, 300 bundles of roofing zinc,150 bags of roofing nail, 100 bag of zinc nail, 600 bags of cement and 200 cartons of tomatoes.
