SON Seizes Sub-Standard Lubricants

Date: 2018-12-18

Standards Organization of Nigeria, SON, in Kwara State has seized over 1, 000 cartons of substandard lubricants and sealed six shops that deals in the sales and distribution of inferior lubricants.

The State Director, Esther Okon, who stated this during a compliance and enforcement operation in markets and warehouses of major dealers in Ilorin, said embargo has been placed on some of the lubricants till they are fully tested.

The standards body said the move became necessary after it discovered through its surveillance activities and extensive survey of the market that most lubricants in the market failed to meet quality parameters of the Nigerian industrial standards.

Okon advised motorists to ensure they use lubricants only certified by the SON.

It was revealed that the seized lubricants lack the chemical compositions of the oils, which reduce wear and friction even in extreme conditions.
