The Chairman, Kwara State Local Government Service Commission, Hajia Sarat Nike Adebayo, has implored local government staff in the state to be diligent in order to enhance service delivery at work.
Hajia Adebayo gave the charge in Ilorin at a two-day workshop on Effective Report Writing, Record Keeping in Registry and Effective Treasury Management organised by her commission for junior and middle level council staff across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking through the Permanent Member II at the commission, Barrister Ayansola Atolagbe, the chairman said the workshop was targeted at the participants to enhance their skills and capacity being core implementers of the government policies.
Hajia Adebayo stated that it was expedient to sharpen the knowledge of the participants for effective and efficient service as many seasoned officers at the council level are bowing out of service.
She added that the topic of the workshop was chosen as a result of the dire need to invigorate and energise staff for greater efficiency, and challenged the participants to utilise the training for effective service and personal development.
Hajia Adebayo, who informed that the workshop was the eight of its kind in recent times, applauded Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for his sustainable interest in human capacity development.
"From our records so far, this workshop is the first to address junior and middle level workers in our local government areas. This category of staff, you will all agree with me, are the core implementers of the government policies. For effective and efficient service delivery therefore, it is expedient to sharpen the knowledge of officers in this group.
"This training from its topic focuses on effective report writing, record keeping and effective treasury management.
"This topic is chosen because of the dire need to invigorate and energise staff towards greater efficiency. Lately, a number of seasoned officers are retiring from service, unless conscious efforts like this are made, the young officers would not be able to function effectively alone after the officers had retired.
"It is on this note that I urge you lucky participants to take maximum advantage of the workshop to sharpen your knowledge for your personal development, and much more importantly for you to be able to enhance service delivery at your individual local government areas", Hajia Adebayo said.
The Chairman, Kwara State chapter of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Mr Joshua Olatunji Omokanye, described the workshop as timely in addressing the present challenges posed by new media and the advantage embedded in it.
"The workshop topic, which combines record keeping with report writing and treasury management, is indeed timely. It is what can be described as three-in-one training opportunity. The timeliness is in its suitability in addressing the present challenge posed by new media and the advantage it can serve", Omokanye said.
