Retiring Raliat Elelu-Habeeb Chides Judicial Union
Retiring Chief Judge of Kwara state, Hon Justice Raliat Elelu-Habeeb, has said that Judicial Staff Union (JUSUN) remained a big clog in the wheel of progress in the state, "as it is presently constituted."
It would be recalled that the association of judicial staff in the state had written a petition against her to the National Judicial Council (NJC) three years ago, before the state government eventually removed her as the CJ on allegation of misconduct, after which she was reinstated by the Supreme Court in March this year.
Speaking at the 2012/2013 Legal Year and the statutory retirement of the CJ in Ilorin yesterday, Justice Elelu-Habeeb said the petition was subsequently thrown out by the NJC after she responded to the petition with valid document.
"During the period of two, three years back, the press in Kwara State constantly requested for my comments on the events then in the judiciary.
"Conscious of my status as a serving judicial officer, I refused to make any statement and I knew fully well that silence is golden and that no matter how long the period, truth cannot be stampeded upon, it would come out in its colour," she said.
The retiring CJ, who accused the leadership of JUSUN in the state of many misdemeanors, however, said "they plan and plot, Allah also plans but Allah is the Master Planner", quoting from Holy Quran.
Justice Elelu-Habeeb, however, appealed to the state government to ensure the completion of the computerization of the court and the multi-door courthouse projects, which she initiated during her tenure as the CJ of the state.
