Kwara stakeholders demand Obuh sacking

Date: 2018-03-01

Kwara United supporters have called for the sacking of the struggling Ilorin Premier League club coach John Obuh.

Obuh was during the week handed a three-game ultimatum by the Kwara State Government-owned outfit, who are 19th in the 20-team league, to save his job At a stakeholders' meeting organised by the club in Ilorin on Wednesday, the supporters called for the former Flying Eagles manager to be fired, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

Chairman of Kwara United Fans Club Oluwatoyin Oniye said Obuh was only good at coaching clubs in the lower leagues.

"We must sack our coaching staff now. Our coach cannot manage clubs at the Premier League level," NAN quoted Oniye as saying.

"He coached IfeanyiUbah, Niger Tornadoes and Rangers and failed. So, this is evident that he cannot take us anywhere."

Former chairman of the club Lanre Jaji echoed Oniye's sentiments, saying the former Golden Eaglets coach should be sent packing.

He said, "The coach sent all the good players away and brought in sub-standard and unproductive players. The set of players he brought in cannot play at this level.

"The players must be disciplined and must not misbehave to the referee during games."

However, the Chairman of Kwara Coaches' Association and former Kwara United coach Tunde Sanni asked the club's chairman to monitor the activities of the team strictly.

Sanni challenged the fans and the supporters' club to always tell the management the truth, not lies, so as to move the club forward.

Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers Ashifat Suleiman urged the club to sack "unproductive" players, adding that the team lack a good striker and a creative midfielder.

"Kwara United don't play like this. All that Nigerian players are concerned about nowadays is money. So, motivate your players," Suleiman said.

The Permanent Secretary in the sports ministry Ayobola Samuel explained that the budget which has money to take care of Kwara United was signed in December, while its implementation began in January.
