JAAC: Kwara 16LGs share N737,7m for Dec, SUBEB gets N1bn

The 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State on Tuesday shared N737,752,371.39 as December allocation , just as State Universal Education Board (SUBEB) teachers got N1 billion for the same month.

All categories of workers in the 16 Local Government Areas of the state also got 100 per cent salary for the month.

The ALGON Chairman who is also Chairman of Oyun LG, Comrade Joshua Omokanye Jalala while addressing pressmen shortly after the state monthly Joint Accounts Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting held at the Ministry of Finance Conference Hall, Ilorin on Tuesday explained that the committee agreed that local Government staff salaries should be prioritised..

He said that LG and LGEA pensioners would receive full pensions this month as the amount stood at N302,823,535.65.

According to him, all categories of LGs workers, SUBEB, Pensioners would receive full salaries this month.

He explained that statutory allocation for the month of December stood at N1,949,343,244.85 as against N2,100,000,000 received in November ;10 per cent IGR from state government,N44,738,721.36; VAT of N421,895,351.89 as against N438,614,308.29 in the previous month.

The chairman explained that the fund was appropriated in line with law guiding the local government account which included; Teachers' salary N1,044,208,114.48;LG and LGEA pension N302,823,535.65 among others.

The committee agreed to skip the loan repayment of N280, 045, 355 as part of N4.820billion loan repayment the councils obtained in 2015 to pay salaries.

He explained that the distribution of the allocations among the Local Government Councils in the state was done in accordance with section 4(2) of the state Joint Local Government Account Law (cap80) as amended by Law 15 of 2001..

The state Secretary, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Rafiu Hoconu implored the state government to remove the SUBEB teachers' salaries from local government, arguing that this would reduce the pressure on them.
