Kwara engages additional 2000 youths
As part of its celebration of the first anniversary of the Kwara State Bridge Empowerment Scheme and to ease unemployment challenges in the state, the state government is poised to up scale the scheme with an additional 2,000 jobs.
The state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, gave this indication in Ilorin, the state capital, on Monday, when the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, paid him the traditional Sallah homage at the Government House.
According to Ahmed, the state government is also partnering with the Federal Government for the provision of additional 10,000 jobs for youths in the state in consonant with its youth empowerment programme.
Ahmed said his administration has also energized entrepreneurship in the state with the disbursement of N500 million micro credit intervention scheme to over 300 small business entrepreneurs.
He added that "another set of entrepreneurs will be empowered and thousand of youth jobs created when the second tranch of the micro credit fund is disbursed to qualifying small business owners before the end of the year."
On health care, Ahmed said when the ongoing comprehensive rehabilitation work in Ilorin, Omu-Aran, Offa, Share and Kaiama General Hospitals are completed, another five would be overhauled next year under his administration's access to health care within 500 metres policy.
The governor said the state government remained committed to the provision of additional primary health care centres in every ward in the state to boost healthcare delivery.
Ahmed explained that his administration's policies in all sectors were borne out of the significance of the linkage among people's wellbeing, peace and development that are karnel to its shared prosperity programme.
Sulu-Gambari, in his remarks, advocated the institutionalization of constitutionalism in Nigeria for life to be more meaningful for Nigerians.
Sulu-Gambari, who noted that if democracy does not work in Nigeria, a country with huge potentials, it cannot work elsewhere in Africa, solicited the cooperation of Nigerians and the international community for the entrenchment of democracy in the country.
Sulu-Gambari, who is the Chairman, Kwara State Traditional Council, pledged the cooperation of the traditional institution and Kwarans in general to the Abdulfatah Ahmed administration.
