Land Acquisition: Saraki Defends Action
Former Governor of Kwara State, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki has assure the Ilorin community that the acquisition of some parcels of land in Ilorin metropolis by the State government was done in the best interest of the community as part of the master plan to transform the state capital into a model one in Nigeria.
Senator Saraki gave this explanation when he visited Kwara State pilgrims in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj.
Dr Saraki who represents Kwara Central Senatorial District in the Senate said it was his administration that acquired the said land in public interest and not the Abdulfatah Ahmed administration. "As your son in Ilorin, I cannot carry out any policy or measure that will be injurious to the collective good of the people. The said parcels of lands were acquired as part of my administration’s effort to transform Ilorin to the best city in Nigeria", he said.
Senator Saraki who is the Chairman of Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology appealed to the people to cooperate with the State Government in its developmental efforts that will transform Ilorin and other parts of the State.
Senator Saraki urged the people to see the land acquisition in proper perspective of laying a solid foundation for the State capital, adding that if there were grey areas on the issue, all parties should embrace and explore the option of dialogue for amicable resolutions and not give the exercise political colouration.
On the delay of the release of local government funds, Senator Saraki said this was virtually a national problem as the release of funds by the federal government was becoming very challenging in recent times.
He assured the people that the Abdulfatah Ahmed administration remains committed to the promotion of the ideas that will enhance the welfare for the people and fast track the infrastructural and economic development of the State.
