Date: 2017-08-03

As part of efforts at reducing pressure of the naira, diversify the nation's economy and strengthening production of locally made materials, members of the Kwara State House of Assembly have unanimously set aside every last Wednesday of the month, to showcase and market the indigenous materials in the legislative premises.

To this end, the House has enjoined all Craftsmen who make all forms of usable materials to register free of charge with the Clerk of the Parliament Alhaji Ahmed Katsina Mohammed, for the display of their materials.

This followed a Motion Without Notice, raised by the House Leader, Hon. Hassan Oyeleke on " Empowering Kwara Entrepreneurs Through Patronage "

The Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad who presided over the Wednesday's sitting, while reading the resolutions of the legislature, said the House of parliament is for the people, stressing that, the legislature would not relent at ensuring that indigenous entrepreneurs were encouraged to flourish, to reduce the nation's over dependence on oil for survival.

It would be recalled that the legislature, few months ago, set aside every Wednesday of the week for its members and legislative staff to appear in indigenous materials, as part of measures, at empowering local entrepreneurs and established a farm settlement in which 300 hectare of soya beans farmland were cultivated by the House.

The House therefore urged all Nigerians, especially Kwarans to patronize the entrepreneurs as a form of empowerment, which according to the Speaker would greatly assist in improving the quality of the product.

The House Leader had while raising the Motion, disclosed that the Senate President brought the idea into fore, the legislators in the state, had not only embraced the idea, but put it into practice, in view of its numerous benefits to the people and the nation's economy.

Other members who contributed on the Motion, enumerated its numerous benefits and enjoined Nigerians to key into the initiative of the Senate President, with a view to ensuring a better future for Nigeria and salvage the nation from the yoke of the developed economy.
