Don Challenges Students to Cultivate Reading Culture
Doctor Taiwo who is the Deputy Provost Administration, Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, made the call on Tuesday at the fortieth graduation ceremony and Prize Giving of the Ilorin Grammar School, held at the school hall.
He also advocated provision of reading materials and facilities in public schools to improve quality of teaching and learning towards restoring the lost glory of public schools.
The Guest Lecturer, cautioned the graduating students against indulging in acts inimical to their future and should refrain from acts that could spoil their family's names.
Doctor Taiwo commended the management, teaching and non teaching staff of the school for impacting knowledge on the students and churning out students that would make positive impact to the development of the society.
The Chairman of the Old Students Association of the School, Alhaji Afolabi Owolabi, appealed to the graduating students to be good ambassadors of their respective family and the school.
Alhaji Owolabi, charged the alumni of the school to contribute to the development and growth of their alma matter, stressing the need to have a comprehensive database of the old students of the school.
In his speech, the Principal of the School, Alhaji Toyin Abdullahi Abubakar, who disclosed that the school is graduating one hundred and sixty five students for the 2016/2017 academic session, charged the students not to indulge in cultism and intake of illicit drugs.
Alhaji Abubakar, appealed to the state government through the Teaching Service Commission to provide more teachers in English Language and computer studies to enhance the usage of the Information and Communication Technology Centre donated to the school by the National Communication Commission.
The Principal of the school stressed the need for urgent rehabilitation of classrooms blown off by rainstorm and completion of the abandoned library of the school to facilitate studying and learning.
The ceremony featured presentation of prizes and gifts to the students and school, cultural dance by the cultural troupe of the school and among other activities.
