The Kwara House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended plenary till Tuesday to enable members attend series of programmes commemorating 50 years of the creation of the state.

The Speaker, Dr Ali Ahmad, announced the suspension while presiding at a brief sitting of the House on Tuesday.

Ahmad said the suspension had become imperative to allow members attend the programmes, adding that committee meetings and public hearings of some bills before the House would, however, take place as scheduled.

The Nigerian Pilot reports that activities marking the 50 years anniversary of the state kicked off on Thursday.

Earlier at Tuesday's plenary, the House received two reports from members, one of which was a petition on alleged encroachment into a community land by the authorities of the Nigerian Airforce.

Ahmad directed all the members to read the two reports, saying deliberations would hold on them at the resumption of plenary.

He said the two reports should be committed to the Committee of the Whole House for further legislative action.
