In its efforts to encourage academic excellence among youths of Ilorin Emirate, the Third-Estate is planning special scholarships for indigent Students who are exceptionally brilliant in high institutions.
The newly elected President of Third-Estate, Mr. Ahmed Bolaji Nagode made the disclosure after his election at the Annual General Meeting of the forum held in Kwara Hotel Ilorin at the weekend.
Nagode who commended the outgoing executive members where he served as the Vice President promised to sustain the tempo of development and progress of the socio-cultural organisation.
He said: "I must commend the outgoing Executive Members for initiating various projects and programmes during their. The Exco under Mr. Yusuf Lawal successfully renovated schools, provided a new Constitutions for the Third-Estate, donated funds towards maintenance of Central Mosque Ilorin, completed skill acquisition centre, developed a functional website and hosted Security and Economic Summits towards peace and progress of the state.
"This are indeed remarkable achievements that we promised to sustain and improved upon."
Also speaking at the occasion, the outgoing President of Third-Estate, Dr. Yusuf Lawal expressed deep appreciation to the members for the privilege of serving the group.
Mr. Lawal said: "For us, it has been an extreme pleasure of having the opportunity to serve the Ilorin Emirate and contribute in our own humble ways to the advancement of its interests. Our experience in the last four years has reinforced our confidence in the capacity and potentials of our people to build a great, prosperous and united community if we focus more on what unites us rather than our differences (if any).
"We must renew our vow to continuously work for the upliftment of our community and improvement of the lives of our people. We have tried in our own humble way to contribute to the development process of Ilorin Emirate. However, the challenges that confront the people are huge and multidimensional.
"I therefore urge the incoming Executive to work hard in order to sustain the tempo of development in Ilorin Emirate. They must jealously guide the reputation of Third Estate as the vanguard of development and refrain from any sectional or partisan tendency that may compromise such reputation. They must be innovative and proactive in addressing emerging challenges."
Other elected executive officers included Ahmed Bolaji Nagode President; Toyin Hassan Vice President 1 and Ahmed Gobir Vice President II. Others officers were returned based on a constitutional amendment. They include Dr. Isiaka Yahaya Alada, Secretary General; Shehu Usman Aladire, Treasurer; Yushau Shuaib Agaka, Publicity Secretary; Saad Danmusa, Assistant Secretary General and Barr. Abdulhakeem U. The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji IBRAHIM Sulu-GAMBARI has called on the Federal Government to urgently address the crisis in the power sector so as to save the remaining existing industries in the country from total collapse .
Alhaji Sulu-GAMBARI who is the KWARA State chairman traditional Council of Chiefs made the call in his palace while receiving the executive members of the KWARA State Chamber of Commerce, Industry , Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) led by its President, Alhaji Ahmed Adeoye Raji.
The Emir said for industries to strive in the country, the government must address the menace in the power sector stating that where there is no power, industries can not grow.
He therefore challenged KWACCIMA to ensure that all moribund industries in the state are revived through genuine partnership with the state government to create employment opportunities particularly for the unemployed graduates .
Alhaji Sulu- GAMBARI expressed regrets that most industrialists that could not break even in the country due to epileptic power supply have relocated to neighboring countries like Ghana where power is stable to establish their businesses which he described as quite unfortunate .
However, the traditional ruler urged industrialists to come and invest in KWARA state stressing that the state government was putting in concerted efforts at create enabling environment for industrialization and described the state as a home of peace and harmony.
Alhaji Sulu GAMBARI commended the state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed for approving ten hectares of land for KWACCIMA as venue for the permanent site for trade fair and pledged his support for the forthcoming trade fair to be organized by the chamber in the state.
The Emir who described himself as a father of all, used the forum to again solicit for unity and love among kwarans irrespective of their religious or political leanings and cautioned politicians against campaign of calumny and hatred which could hitherto result to chaos and instability.
He also enjoined politicians to guide against issues that could divide the nation but rather embark on healthy democracy and do not destroy an already established existing structure.
Earlier, the President of KWACCIMA , Alhaji Raji commended the Emir for always preaching unity and love among the people and for creating an enabling environment for business to strive in the state.
Alhaji Raji intimated the traditional ruler of the trade fair holding in October this year in Ilorin the state capital and solicited for the maximum support of the state government , the emir and the entire people of the state for its success.
He described KWACCIMA as the mouth piece of business in the state and assured that the chamber would do everything within its reach to add value to the state economy.
In his remark, the Director- General of the chamber, Prince Ayo Fagbemi disclosed that all arrangements are being perfected to reposition the activities of KWACCIMA in the state under the leadership of Alhaji Raji and bring all business interests under one umbrella for sustainable business in the state.
