KWSG allays fears on LG polls, TIC extension

Date: 2017-04-13

The Kwara State government has allayed fears expressed by some people in the state over the forthcoming local government election and the extension of the tenure of Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) for another three months.

According to the Special Assistant to the Governor on Electoral Matters, Hajia Halimat Ejide Balogun, the government is very well on course to ensure successful conduct of the local government election as soon as the economy of the state improves.

The Governor's aide who spoke to Pilot Politics in her office on Tuesday, said the exercise will be better than previous ones in the state, adding that her office have been visiting both the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASSIEC) and the state chapter of INEC towards success of the polls.

She said those criticising the setting up and extension of the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) tenure are only doing so out of hatred, adding that the decision was a well thought out process as a result of the challenging situation on ground.

On the issue of uncollected Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), Hajia Balogun said her office will soon embark on sensitisation exercise as soon as approval is gotten from the governor.

She added that "Our leaders, Senate President Bukola Saraki and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed have provided necessary leadership and demonstrated uncommon love for the state in their separate capacities.

"The institution of the TIC has been a win-win situation for the state, it has provided an opportunity for the ruling administration to spread the dividend of democracy and also focus on how to improve on the salary situation in the state especially in that sector.

"These are the issues and not those who are criticising just to be heard. Our leader know what they are doing and Kwara State is one of the best states in the country on issue of salaries.

"As regards the unclaimed PVCs, our state is not as affected as Lagos. Some have died while some have changed location among others. But we will soon start sensitisation as regards that once the approval comes," she added.
