KWHA reverses SSG order on Hajj Monopoly
The Kwara State House of Assembly has called on the Secretary to the State Government to immediately reverse its directive to all Local Government Councils mandating them to patronize only two Agents or operators for this year's Hajj.
The House made this known while responding to a report of the House Joint Committee on Public Petition and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on a petition written by the state chapter of the Association of Indigenous Travel Agents read on the floor by the two chairmen, Alhaji Giwa Afolabi-Elefo and Barrister Kamaldeen Fagbemi.
It directed all Local Government Councils in the state to exercise their freedom to screen, negotiate and come to agreement with any suitable Hajj Agent or operator for pilgrimage for their indigenes.
The House called on the Local Government Councils to ensure compliance with all due process, laws and procedure in selecting suitable Agent or operator for this year's Hajj so as to ensure transparency, probity and accountability.
It said the agents are bona-fide indigenes of the state who see themselves as positive stakeholders in the quest to move the state to the next level.
