Kwara Committed To Enhanced Food Production - Commissioner

Date: 2017-03-10

The Kwara Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that farmers in the state are well equipped with modern technology to boost agricultural production.

Mr Bamidele Adegoke, the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, said in a statement in Ilorin on Thursday that government would encourage youths to embrace agriculture by providing them with agricultural inputs.

The statement signed by Mr Abdulrafiu Agboola, the Press Secretary in the ministry, quoted the commissioner as saying that government's attention would be focused on growth of crops like rice, soya beans and maize.

Adegoke said that the 16 local government areas in the state had been directed to provide hectares of land for farming during the 2017 cropping season.

He commended the state's House of Assembly for keying into the agricultural policy of government through the acquisition of land to be cultivated in the farming season.

The commissioner also said the state government would soon release tractors to farmers to enable them embark on large-scale farming.
