Moro LG Boss Seeks More Funds For Councils

Date: 2012-07-26

Alhaji Shuaib Jimoh, the Chairman, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara, has called for a review of the revenue allocation formula in favour of councils.

Jimoh, who made the call in Ilorin on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said inadequate funding had made it difficult for the third tier of government to impact on the grassroots.

"Adequate funding of the third tier of government will make it possible for the council areas to flourish and contribute to grassroots development," he said.

The council boss explained that if local government councils were well funded, the people would reap the dividends of democracy.

He said council chairmen may not be able to impact positively on the lives of their people if they do not have enough funds to embark on projects.

Jimoh said as the closest government to the grassroots, local councils deserved to be properly funded to reduce poverty and boost development. (NAN)
