Kwara govt shuts 88 schools

Date: 2016-10-13

Worried by the increasing number of illegal private nursery, primary and secondary schools in Kwara State, the government, yesterday, said it had closed over 88 schools and threatened to shut more in pursuit of standard education in the state.

The state's Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Musa Yeketi, disclosed this yesterday while delivering his address at the 2016 Day of the National Association of Proprietors of Private School, NAPPS, in Ilorin.

Yeketi, who acknowledged the impact of private schools in complementing the state government's efforts, appealed to owners of the illegal schools to regularise their operation and those with sub-standard facilities to upgrade or risk sanctions.

NAPPS National President, Dr. Sally Adukwu-Bolujoko, who was represented by the association's Financial Secretary, Temitope Ajibola, in his address, asked government to eradicate the multiple taxations private schools were burdened with.
