Kwara Utd appeal to fans on Federation Cup exit

Date: 2012-07-20

The Board of  Kwara United FC of  Ilorin has appealed to fans to keep faith with  the club in spite of  their poor run in  the 2012 Federation Cup competition.

The Chairman of the club, Bamidele Aluko,  on Friday in Ilorin urged supporters of the club to bear with the  failure to reach the quarter-finals of the competition at the Lagos centre.

Kwara United failed to qualify for the quarter-finals having lost two matches in the group stage.

Kwara United lost 1-2 to Kano Pillars and 0-1 to El Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri  while they  will play their last group game against Crown FC of Ogbomoso on Friday.

Aluko said in a statement that "with the large number of calls received from football followers and the passion shown after losing two matches, it shows how people love the 'Afonja Warriors’ as they are fondly called."

The statement pleaded with the people not to lose hope on the future of the club.

According to the statement, no stone will be left unturned as the suspension of  Coach Tunde Sanni is part of the planned team's overhaul.

"There will be total overhaul of the team in every department at the end of the league season.

"The board took over the administration of the club about two months ago when the Nigeria Premier League is already at a crucial stage and could only make use of the squad they met on ground,"  the statement  said.

It added that the board had identified areas of  technical deficiency which would be corrected to enhance desirable results next soccer season.

"The management will do everything to ensure the club does not drop from the league even though the team has four more matches to end the season," it said.
