Kwara assembly extends tenure of Offa council

Date: 2016-09-13

The Kwara State House Assembly has approved the extension of tenure of the chairman and councillors of Offa Local Government Council to November 10, 2016.

The approval was sequel to a request by Governor Abdul-Fatah Ahmed, in a message read by the Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad. The tenure of Offa council leadership was expected to expire last week Friday, while the tenure of other 15 council chairmen in the state would expire on November 10, 2016.

The motion for the tenure extension for the Offa council was moved by the House Leader, Hassan Oyeleke, and seconded by Saheed Popoola, who represents Ojomu-Balogun Constituency.

The governor said in the letter that the extension became necessary because the present circumstances made it impracticable for the state government to fund the council's election.
