Group flays Kwara government over road repairs

Date: 2016-08-29

A non-political group, 'Kwara Youth Vanguard' (KYV) has criticised the state government for allegedly ignoring maintenance of strategic roads in Ilorin, the state capital.

The group, through its Chairman, Mr. Kehinde Ibrahim and the Secretary, Kabir Ibrahim told The Guardian that the bad portions of the roads are causing serious traffic snarls on the major roads across the metropolis.

In response, the State's Commissioner for Works, Aro Yahaya, said the state already had the lists of the roads requiring attention, promising that the repair works will commence within the next two weeks.

Yahaya, who partly blamed the delay on paucity of funds, rainy season and poor habit of wastes disposal among the citizens, said the government was getting over the challenges.

Already, the commissioner said, Bitumen van had been procured by the state government towards boosting the state's capacity to locally produce its own bitumen. "Our people should therefore be more patient with us. We are almost getting there. The roads will soon be returned to their original good state," he added.
