KWSG to generate revenue from trees
The Kwara State government has reinstated its commitment to boost the revenue generation of the state through mass plantation of trees. It added that the state government held tree planting with high esteem to be able to create a good and world class standard living environment for all.
It added that the state government would begin visitation to all local governments to acquire some hectares of land for mass tree planting stressing that trees should be of commercial value.
Speaking through the Special Adviser to the Kwara State Governor on Forestry at Pace-Setter Afforestation Programme flag-off ceremony at Loosa Community in Ilorin East Local Government, Mr Amos Sayo said the collaboration will continue for many years to come and implored all to take this beyond association level by also helping government in sensitizing various communities and individuals on the need and importance of forest to environment.
He also urged them to remember that one tree means one life and must be saved for our own safety and particularly urged them to plant a tree in their various household.
He appealed to them to protect their property through the planting of trees and desist from illegal felling of trees but create forestry themselves to be able to plant trees for a healthy and lively environment.
He stressed that forestry was a long term investment, its repositioning to address present day challenges required funding which government alone could not make it a reality but with the help of public private partnership adding that the state government would do all in its power to make it a reality.
He also implored the leadership of the association to strategise on how they could complement government efforts in a bid to revitalise forest estate and inadvertently generate employment and human wellbeing.
