Kwara PDP elders warn against polarisation
The Elders of Kwara Central Senatorial District of the Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday cautioned against any act that could polarise the party, especially in Kwara State.
The group also called for the lifting of the suspension on three members of the PDP in the state, Mr. Iliasu Ibrahim, Mr. Toyin Azeez and Mr. Adewunmi Agboola.
The group made this known in a letter signed by its chairman, Ayinla Folorunsho, and secretary, Alabi Onimago.
The letter which was sent to the state Chairman of PDP, Mr. Iyiola Oyedepo and copied to the PDP National Chairman, Senator Modu Sheriff, was made available to our correspondent in Ilorin, Kwara State.
It stated that any move that could aggravate the differences in the party should be viewed with utmost caution, adding that the PDP needed unity of purpose and comprehensive hard work of all members irrespective of political interests.
But Oyedepo, in an interview with our correspondent, said the suspension could be lifted if the concerned party members through constitutional procedure sought for it.
The Kwara Elders Committee also urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to be deterred in his anti-corruption posture by the antics of corrupt people and their sidekicks.
The group in a statement by Abdulrahaman Gold, (Kwara Central); Yekeen Obalowu (Kwara South); and Mr. Ezekiah Kolo (Kwara North) said the prosecution of highly placed public officials, who allegedly corruptly enriched themselves, had sent a strong signal to the international community that corruption and indiscipline would no longer be condoned in Nigeria again.
It said the group was determined more than ever to ensure that corruption that had riddled virtually all strata of the Nigerian society was curbed to the barest minimum, if not totally eradicated.
