NIS repatriates 47 aliens in Kwara

Date: 2016-03-26

The Kwara State Comptroller, Nigerian Immigration Service, Abimbola Abiodun-Ojo, said that the command had arrested 47 Nigeriens who were residing illegally in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.

She stated that the Nigeriens who had no valid documents to reside in Nigeria posed a threat to the society.

She spoke on Friday through the command's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Daniel Adeyemi.

The NIS boss said that the command later ensured that the culprits were repatriated to Niger Republic.

She lauded members of the public who provided intelligence to the command and urged them to continue to make available necessary information to security agencies, especially when they see influx of new faces in their neighbourhood.

She stated that the information would assist security agencies in the performance of their job and enhance safety of lives and property in the state.

Abiodun-Ojo said, "Following a tip-off that was made available to us, we sent our men on intelligence gathering. We were able to find out that there were some non-Nigerians residing in Kaiama LGA, specifically at Budo-Sunde-Kinikini. We went for a raid and were able to arrest about 47 Nigeriens, nine males, 11 females and 27 minors.

"We went there for the raid and after the raid, we had to do profiling and screening. We actually invited the Department of State Services to join us in the screening. We discovered that they did not have proper documents to reside in the country. They came in through illegal means. That was why we eased them out of the country."
