Kwara assures students on bursary
The Kwara State Government has restated its commitment to accord welfare of student in the state top priority even as it urged them to exercise patience in the payment of their bursary.
The Chairman, State Scholarship Board, Hon. Isiaka Mogaji gave the assurance while speaking in an exclusive interview in Ilorin.
Mogaji said the state government was aware of the plight of students and parents on the payment and disbursement of bursary, saying that efforts were being made to ensure the payment on time.
He attributed the delay in the payment of bursary for the 2011/2012 academic seesion to the inadequate fund appropraited for the project/scheme in the fiscal year.
He said that the new board members have reached compromise to meet with the leadership of the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) to renew modality for the payment of the scheme.
Mogaji said "We are quite aware of complaints from indigent studeent and parents, but let me assure you that the state government is very conscious of the need of students; we have passion for the welfare of student across board.
"The initial fund appropraited for bursary in the fiscal year is not adequate to go round. This, perhaps, cause the delay in the payment and disbursement of the fund.
"Henceforth, conditions would be applied to ensure that the qualified indigent student benefit from the scheme. As I'm speaking with you, The Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed is very eager to see changes in the new scholarship board".
Hon. Mogaji enjoined the students to eschew all acts capable of jeopardizing the relative peace in the state, urging them to face their study squarely.
