No fewer than 1000 people in Kwara State have accessed free medical tests, counselling and drugs for ailments including hypertension, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and malaria, during a free medical outreach.
The programme organised by the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), was held in Omu-Aran, Irepodun local government area of the state, was in collaboration with the office of the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) and a member of the House of Representatives, Princess Funke Adedoyin.
Speaking at the flag-off of the four-day programme, the NACA Director-General, Prof. John Idoko, said the agency’s medical outreach initiative was targeted at scaling up HIV counseling and testing to achieve lower HIV/AIDS prevalence rate nationwide.
Idoko said the objective of the outreach was to achieve zero tolerance for new HIV/AIDS infections through adequate testing and counselling, alongside other health-related prevention activities nationwide.
The NACA boss who was represented by Dr Daniel Egbule, the agency’s principal programme officer, said the outreach was also to ensure that the MDGs target for the country was adequately met.
He pledged the agency’s commitment to the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) initiative of the World Health Organisation due to kick off this year, so it could achieve maximum positive impact on Nigerians.
