Unilorin Senate elects Abdulkareem new DVC
The Senate of the University of Ilorin has elected Prof. Adedayo Yusuf Abdulkareem Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC). The election, which was one of the highlights of the 252nd Meeting of the University Senate, penultimate Thursday (January 21, 2016), is subject to confirmation by the University Council. The Professor of Education Management was, until his new appointment, the Director, Institute of Education (IOE), University of Ilorin.
The DVC - designate, who was born to the family of Alhaji and Madam Lambe Abdulkareem on May 29, 1951, started his educational career at the Muslim Community Primary School, Ile Oluji, in the present Ondo State, in 1955. He attended Offa Grammar School, Offa from 1969 to 1973 and Advanced Teachers' College (now Federal College of Education), Zaria from 1974 to 1977 for his NCE at which he had distinction in Mathematics and Physics.
Prof. Abdulkareem also attended the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, from 1979 to 1981 where he obtained B. Ed. (Hons.) in Educational Management and Mathematics. He was the University's Department of Educational Management Federal Merit awardee during the period.
He later attended the University of Ilorin for his Masters and Ph.D. from 1983 to 1984 and from 1985 to 1989 respectively. He was appointed Assistant Lecturer at the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin in 1981 and left the College as a Principal Lecturer to join the University of Ilorin as a Lecturer I in 1995. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor-designate was appointed a Professor of Educational Management in the University of Ilorin in 2012. A Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), Prof. Abdulkareem belongs to a number of other professional associations. He is happily married with children.
