School of Preliminary Studies to extend admission application period
The new Director of the School of Preliminary Studies, University of Ilorin, Prof. Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi, has disclosed that the school is considering the extension of the application period for admission to give opportunity to more candidates to be admitted for the remedial programmes for this 2015/2016 academic session.
Prof. Akanbi, who disclosed this last Tuesday (January 19, 2016) while featuring on 'Oro t'onlo', a popular Yoruba current affairs programme on Unilorin 89.3 FM, said that the idea was to give those candidates that could not make the registration before the January 10 deadline an opportunity to be considered for the programme.
Prof. Akanbi explained that the School of Preliminary Studies is a platform that creates an avenue for candidates to be admitted into the University of Ilorin, especially those students within the University catchment areas and those from educational disadvantaged states.
He added that the remedial programme is a stepping stone for students to achieve their dream of having University education, adding that remedial result has some advantages over the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), pointing out that the UTME is like a recharge card that cannot be loaded twice while the remedial result can be used twice by the candidate.
The Director warned applicants into the preliminary programme of the institution that admission is strictly for the qualified candidates. He also noted that admission of any kind is not for sale at the University of Ilorin.
Prof. Akanbi advised parents to always monitor the activities of their wards, charging students to always be focused in their education and avoid all anti-social vices.
