Kwara tertiary institutions' workers to get salaries soon

Date: 2016-01-14

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State yesterday assured workers of tertiary institutions in the state of the payment of their salaries, saying a loan has been secured to offset the backlog. ?The governor who said this on a radio programme tagged "The Governor Explains", stressed that the delay in salary payment in recent times was not intentional, but due to the current economic crunch arising from dwindling allocation to the state and local governments across the federation.

He also explained that plan was afoot in ensuring that salaries were paid as and at when due in the future. Ahmed denied allegation of discriminating against local government workers, saying he was disturbed by the issue as governor. The governor suggested that local government areas should as a matter of urgency embark on screening exercise to ascertain their staff strength. On the proposed N20 billion bond by the state government, the governor said the government was capable of servicing it without stress, adding that it would be used for certain developmental projects.?
