'NHIS for Both Public, Private Sectors'

Date: 2015-12-24

The General Manager in charge of North Central A of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Alhaji Idris Mohammed says the scheme is geared towards providing insurance cover to both public institutions and institutions in the organized private sector.

Mohammed made the remark in Ilorin during an interview with Daily Trust regarding their operation in the state, and against speculation by some people that the scheme is introduced to provide health insurance to government establishments alone.

He explained that his zone which covers Kwara, Kogi and Niger states, has developed various programmes for the people of the states to assess. He said, "We have the formal sector programme which was designed purposely for the civil servants and people in the organized private sectors. Any private sector with10 staff members or more is expected to enroll the staff for the insurance coverage.

We are working with Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) as the umbrella body for all the organized private sector to benefit like the public sectors.? We started at the federal level but we are now reaching out to the states and local governments to be part of the programme and it is taking a new dimension."
