Eight in court for alleged armed robbery

Eight persons, who were arrested for allegedly breaking into a residence where they dispossessed the occupants of their valuables at gun point have been remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin.

The order to remand the accused was made by an Ilorin Magistrate Court before which they appeared on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and receiving stolen property, contrary to Sections 6(B), 1(2) and 5 of Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision), Act Cap R11, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. The accused were Emeka Eyinna, 24, of behind Boman Filling Station, Ilorin; Azeez Isiaka, 26 of Kabba Kajola Village, via Amoyo, Ilorin; Christiana Emeka Obasi, 34 of Ikokoro Street, Niger Area, Ilorin and Ladimeji Sanusi, 28 of No. 35, Ita-Adu Area, Ilorin.

Others included Uche Sunday, 23 of Osere Street, Ilorin; Rafiu Abdullahi, 21 of No. 22, Surulere Area, Ilorin; Damilare Oyeladun, 22 of Oke-Isoromitan, Kilanko Area, Ilorin and Simon Ogundeji, 32 of No. 22, Arise Yumi Masifa, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Prior to the arrest of the accused, one Adeoye Adewale Femi of Kwara State House of Assembly, Asa-Dam Road, Ilorin, had reported on July 7, 2015 at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Nigeria Police, Ilorin, that a gang of armed robbers broke into his house at Alhaji Abdullahi Housing Estate, Abike Ade Street, Upper Gaa-Akanbi, Ilorin.

The victim alleged that the suspected hoodlums dispossessed him of a Honda Odyssey model 2005 vehicle with registration number LAGOS KSF 915 CP, 32 inches plasma television, a Nokia, LG and Techno GSM handsets, and a Samsung note 2004 edition.

According to the police, during the course of investigation, the Samsung note was recovered from one Oluwayinka Ebenezer Ojo of No. 7, Olusehun Court Road, GRA, Offa, Kwara State, through tracker on the Samsung note.

Police said further that the arrest of Oluwayinka led to the apprehension of Oladimeji (fourth accused), who confessed that he bought the Samsung note from Emeka (first accused) at the rate of N13,000. Hence, the other accused were arrested.

Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that investigation revealed that the accused were the armed bandits that criminally conspired and robbed the victim of his property.

The prosecutor, Corporal Abideen informed the court that investigation into the case was still in progress with the aim to track the other members of the gang and to recover the other stolen items.

The prosecutor, however, objected bail of the accused and urged the court to remand them in prison custody pending the outcome of investigation.

The trial Magistrate, Mrs. M.F. Adebola acceded to the submission of the prosecutor and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin.

The court adjourned the case till December 9 for further mention.

Man arraigned for stealing car stereo

A 30-year-old man, Ridwan Abolaji of Oke-Ogun Area, Agbabiaka Area, Ilorin, has been arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing a car stereo.

The accused was arraigned on a one-count charge of theft, contrary to Section 287 of Penal Code Law. He has since been ordered to be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin.

Police from 'F' Division, Tanke, Ilorin, arrested the accused following a compliant on November 15 by one Oyedele Oluwole of opposite 'F' Division Police Station, Tanke, Ilorin, that the accused stole his car stereo.

According to the complainant, he met the accused inside his Honda Bullet car with registration number LAGOS EDM 126 APP where he was dismantling the wiring system of the vehicle and removed the car stereo.

Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that during investigation at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin, the accused confessed that it was not the first time of removing car stereo inside people's cars.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant Sanni Abdullahi objected bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody pending the outcome of investigation.

The Magistrate, Mrs. B.M. Magaji agreed with the submission of the prosecutor and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin, until November 30 when the case would come up for further mention.

Cattle rearer held for killing farmer

For allegedly shooting a farmer to death, a cattle rearer, Suleiman Mahmod, 20 of Ogundele Efue, via Agbona, Kwara State, has been dragged before an Ilorin Magistrate Court. The accused was brought before the court on a one-count charge of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of Penal Code Law.

The accused was indicted following a complaint on November 20 at Alapa Divisional Police Headquarters, Kwara State, by one Suleiman Abdullahi, the Jewuro of Agbona, Kwara State, that the accused shot one Abdulrahman Umar of Oke-Aye, via Agbona, Kwara State, to death.

According to the complainant, information reached him that the deceased, who went to guard his harvested yam in his farm was shot dead by the accused.

Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that investigation conducted at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin, revealed that the deceased had on November 17 employed the service of the accused for the harvest of his yams produce. Based on the stealing of the harvested yams, the deceased decided to guard them.

The FIR added that the accused, whom the deceased kept the yams with, criminally went to the farm with intention to steal them. The FIR added that when the accused discovered that the deceased has identified him to have been responsible for the stolen yams, he callously shot him to death.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Sanni Abdullahi informed the court that the alleged offence committed by the accused was not ordinarily bail able. He, however, objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody pending the determination of the case.

The defence counsel, Barrister Toyin Onaolapo prayed the court to admit the accused to bail pending the determination of the case.

Magistrate B.M. Magaji declined the oral application of the defence and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin and adjourned the case till December 8 for further mention.

Court remands 21-yr-old driver for robbing at gunpoint

An Ilorin Magistrate Court has remanded a 21-year-old driver, Ajayi Olukayode of Maduku Area, Sango, Ilorin, at Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin, for allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint.

The accused had appeared before the court on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery. The offence contravened Sections 6B and 1(2) of Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.

The accused was arrested following report on November 18 at 'E' Division Police Station, Kulende, Ilorin, by one Hon. Ahmed Mohammed of Sango Area, Ilorin, that a gang of five armed robbers invaded his house and robbed him of his valuables.

According to him, the suspected hoodlums armed with locally made guns and dispossessed him of a cash of N22,000, a iphone valued at N145,000, a Blackberry phone valued at N55,000 and the key to his Peugeot 406 car.

he victim stated further that the suspected hoodlums had packed all his electronic gadgets inside his Peugeot 406 car before he summoned courage to fire one of them on the leg, which made them to abandon the car and escaped.

Meanwhile, upon the report of the matter to the police, information was received about the death of one of the gang members, Abdulgafar Omotosho, who was shot during the robbery operation and also led to the arrested principal member of the gang, Olukayode (accused), who allegedly confessed to the crime.

Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that investigation conducted at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin, revealed that the accused, one Taiye, deceased and others at large belonged to a deadly armed robbery gang that had been terrorising innocent citizens of Ilorin and its environs.

The prosecution had objected bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody pending the outcome of investigation.

The defence counsel, Barrister Toyin Onaolapo prayed the court to admit the accused to bail pending the outcome of investigation.

The judge, Mrs. F.O. Olokoyo upheld the submission of the prosecution and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin. The case would come up on December 15 for further mention.
