NFL Bans Ilorin Stadium

Date: 2005-02-13

Unprecedented celebrations that trailed Kwara United FC of Ilorin victorious win over Iwuanyanwu Nationale of Owerri in the star match of the 2005 Globacom Premier League opener, was cut short following an indefinite ban slammed on the Kwara Township Stadium, Ilorin by the Nigeria Football League (NFL).

Chairman of NFL Oyiki Obaseki told THISDAYSports yesterday in an interview that NFL had no choice than to ban the stadium following the poor state of the pitch. He said that the home team was lucky that officials of NFL had no prior knowledge and information concerning the state of the pitch and other facilities at the centre saying NFL would have taken the match to another venue.
