Community charges Govt on reopening of banks
More than two years, precisely May 14, 2013 after the bank robbery in which many lives were lost, banking services have remained shut in Omu-Aran community and this development was the high point of the issues addressed at this year's Omu-Aran festival held weekend.
In his opening address, the President of Omu-Aran Development Association, Chief Peter Oyinloye highlighted measures taken by the community such as the purchase of Hilux vehicles and support for deployment of Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS), vigilante and local hunters.
Oyinloye however gave assurances that banks would be reopened soon.
He also urged the government to address the bad state of roads in the community, while charging the politicians to key into the change mantra of the ruling government, which he added should be commended for the appointment of her sons as Special Adviser and Executive Secretary of Harmony holdings, while he absolved himself of partisanship but advised the politicians to be dynamic.
In his reaction, the Chairman of Irepodun Local Government Area, Alhaji Luqman Owolewa attributed the bad state of roads and other infrastructures to the fall in revenue from FAAC which had dropped by 45 percent, promising to address the issue of infrastructure as soon as the economic situation improves.
The traditional ruler, Oba Charles Oladele Ibitoye, thanked the Community for the remarkable attendance at the event.
There was also a fundraising ceremony which included individuals, families, artisans, family compounds, market associations, tribal associations and many groups donating to the up-liftmen of the community.
