49-yr-old cripple held for impregnating teenager
A 49-year-old crippled man, Abdullahi Saliman of Ile-Alajere, Isale Banni, Ilorin, Kwara State, has been arrested for allegedly abducting a teenage girl. While the abduction lasted the randy man had an uninterrupted sexual intercourse with the victim which led to her pregnancy.
The victim was said to have been kept under lock by the accused person, popularly called 'Abdullahi Aro' for more than five months during which she became pregnant.
The victim was said to have been handed over to her family members, while a complaint was lodged at 'G' Division Police Station, Oloje, Ilorin, against the accused.
Consequently, police has charged the accused before an Ilorin Chief Magistrate Court on a two-count allegation of criminal conspiracy and abduction, contrary to Sections 97 and 273 of Penal Code Law.
The victim, who resides at Orelope Compound, Oloje, Ilorin, was allegedly abducted by the accused sometimes in December 2011 when she was sent on an errand by her father.
The girl was allegedly taken to a relative of the accused at Tegbesun village in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, where she cohabitated with the accused for more than five months and ended up been pregnant for the accused.
Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that on May 15, 2012 at about 5:30pm, one Sule Adegboyega of Orelpoe Compound, Oloje, Ilorin, reported at 'G' Division Police Station, Oloje, Ilorin that sometime in december 2012 he sent her daughter on an erand since then the girl was no where to be found.
According to the complainant, "all effort to trace my daughter's where about proved abortive, but luckily for me, I was at home when I received information that the accused and one other now at large are the ones who criminally conspired to run away with my daughter".
The complainant alleged further that they induced her daughter, kept her in their house without the knowledge of her parents and continuously had carnal knowledge of her. According to the FIR, the accused subjected the victim to rounds of sex leading to her four months old pregnancy.
The FIR added further that during the course of investigation by the police, the accused confessed to have committed the crime along with one other siad to be at large.
The prosecutor, Inspector Jimoh Kareem told the court that investigation into the matter is yet to be completed, while effort is ongoing to arrest the other accused who is on the run
The prosecutor also objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand the accused at the Federal Prison, Ilorin, pending the outcome of the investigation.
He submitted further that the alleged offences are not ordinarily bailable and that if the accused was granted bail he might jump bail having known the gravity of the offences and which in turn would jeopadise the police investigation.
The presiding judge, Magistrate Sarafa Anafi did not agree with the submission of the prosecutor, saying that the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria still presumed the accused innocent of the allegation until contrary is proved.
The court stated further that considering the condition of the accused, it would exercise its bail discretion in favour of the accused.
Consequently, the accused was admitted to bail at the sum of N200,000 and two sureties in like sum, while the sureties must be ordinarily residence within the jurisdiction of the court.
The matter would come up again on june 13, 2012 for further mention.
