Kwara lawmakers condemn call

Date: 2015-09-29

Members of the Kwara State House of Assembly, KWHA, have condemned the call for the resignation of Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, describing it as unwarranted.

Deputy speaker of the House, Hon. Mathew Okedare while felicitating with Muslim faithful during the Sallah celebration, noted that, the clamour is not in the interest of the nation and democracy, describing those championing the call based on the case against him at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, as enemy of change mantra of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He said: "Asking Saraki to resign is jumping the gun, he has pleaded not guilty to the charges, the charges are more political ."

"Bukola is one of the frontline contributors towards the success of the APC at the last general elections, he sacrificed a lot towards actualising the presidency of Muhammadu Buhari.

"It is however worrisome that since his emergence as the Senate President, some forces have stood vehemently against his emergence which was a pan Nigerian mandate cutting across regional and political divide."

Speaking in the same vein, Hon. Abdulrasheed Taiwo, representing Owode/Onire state constituency, described the clamour for Saraki's resignation as laughable and anti-people, adding that, Saraki's mandate as Senate President was not by the fiat of a godfather; rather it was a popular mandate.

Also speaking, Hon. Abdulrafiu Abdulrahman described the call for resignation of Saraki as being championed by some people as a way of getting the Senate President's seat through the back door, after they were roundly rejected in a free and fair process that led to the emergence of Saraki.
