Judiciary, last hope of common man - Gov Ahmed

Date: 2012-06-01

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has described the judiciary as the last hope of the common man with great potentials of sustaining the rule of law and purposeful governance in the country.

Alhaji Ahmed said this in Ilorin yesterday while commissioning 16 judges' quarters and stewards' lodges as part of efforts at ensuring that judges in the state live in conducive environment that could hasten quick dispensation of justice.

Governor Ahmed noted that democratic culture in Nigeria in the last 13 years had been deeply entrenched due to the steadfast disposition of the judiciary.  He said judges in Kwara State had comported themselves with the aura and honour befitting their offices, adding that, "it is common knowledge that the judiciary in the state has maintained an impressive disposition in the dispensation of justice."

The governor assured the judges that his administration remained committed to uplifting the rule of law and good governance with a pledge that no stone would be left unturned in its support for the judiciary.

Ahmed commended the judicial officers in the state for managing the challenges associated with the performance of their functions.  At Erin-Ile in Oyun Local Government Area of the state, Governor Ahmed commissioned a High Court Assembly constructed by the local government council, which he described as good partnership with the state government in the provision of basic amenities which have direct bearing on the lives of the people.
