FG Urged to Include Private Varsities in TetFund
The federal government has been urged to allow private universities to benefit from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund. Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Mohammed Olalekan Ibrahim, also appealed to the government to rescue the nation's tertiary education from dwindling standard.
The Vice Chancellor made the call in Ilorin at the weekend while briefing journalists on the fifth convocation ceremony of the university. Ibrahim, who re-echoed call on the government for financial assistance to private universities, said the amount of decay at the tertiary level of educational system suggested need for concerted efforts.
"The financial requirement to fund university education is enormous and I will want the government to consider granting some subvention to private universities in the country", he said.
Out of the 817 students, according to the Vice Chancellor, 17 of them graduated with First Class degree. The graduating students are from four of the six colleges of the institution namely, Humanit
ies and Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Natural Sciences and Education.
