Unilorin VC says admission is on merit for all candidates
Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, on Monday said all candidates seeking admission into the university would be given equal opportunity.
Ambali was speaking when he received members of the University Students' Union Central Executive Council in his office in Ilorin. He said that UNILORIN's admission process was based on merit.
He said that the number of candidates seeking admission into the university was on the high side and that this was creating a huge pressure on the system. The vice-chancellor, however, assured all admission seekers that the process would guarantee that every candidate was given equal opportunity.
He said that UNILORIN was raising top-class graduates that would made part of the larger Nigerian project for the overall development of the country. He congratulated the students' union leaders on their recent election, saying that their submissions and proposals would be looked into.
Ambali used the occasion to invite the executives to be part of the university's forthcoming 40th anniversary celebration and 31st Convocation programme coming up in October.
"Together, we can build the university of our dream and see your present position as a training ground for the future but don't allow it to override your academic career," he advised the executives.
The President of the Union, Mr Alao Ibrahim, pledged the union's commitment to redoubling its support for the university's management in the new academic session.
Ibrahim said that the students' body would do everything possible to support the university's 40th anniversary and 31st convocation programme. He said that the new academic session would be dedicated to honouring the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Lamido Sanusi. (NAN)
