Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has explained that the creation of the state Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) is to boost the internally generated revenue of the state and not a sign to impose new taxes on the residents.

A statement by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abduwahab Oba, yesterday, said Ahmed gave the assurance in Ilesha Baruba, Baruten Local Government Area of the state during the presentation of staff of office to the new Emir of the town, Prof. Halidu Abubakar.

According to him, the mandate of KIRS is to change the process of collecting existing taxes by deploying technology to block loopholes and increase efficiency. Ahmed stressed that with increased revenue, his administration would complete existing projects, establish new ones in all sectors as well as inject additional N2bilion into entrepreneurship development scheme. The governor urged the new Emir to serve as a builder of bridges of harmony and peace among the people of his domain and beyond.

The Emir of Ilesha Baruba, in his acceptance speech, pledged not to betray the confidence the people of the Emirate and the state government reposed in him. Abubakar, who is the 28th Emir of Ilesha Baruba, assured the state government that the people of his Emirate would support the realisation of the government's programmes and policies.
