VC Cautions NMA Against Strikes

Date: 2015-08-21

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has advised the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) against incessant strikes, saying that strikes should be embarked upon only after other options have failed.

mbali, who gave the advice while receiving the executive council of the Kwara State branch of the NMA in his office, said doctors across the country must avoid unnecessary strikes.

Commending the NMA members for their contributions to the growth of the university, the vice chancellor noted that medicine is an enviable profession, adding that the medical doctors are able to function well in other fields because they are well-trained in their discipline.

"You are part of our pride in Unilorin. Unilorin College of Health Sciences has the highest number of candidates seeking to study medicine in the country. We have therefore commenced the building of a permanent structure for the college, with millions of naira being spent on the project," he said.

The NMA chairman, Dr. Abubakar O. Ayinla, said the association will give free treatment and drugs to patients during its forthcoming NEC meeting.
