Nigerian league records 480 goals in 240 games
Teams in the Nigeria Professional Football League have been quite prolific this current season scoring 480 goals in 240 games, with the season barely over half-way gone.
The statistics released by the League Management Company on Tuesday showed that an average of two goals have been scored per game this season, while 777 yellow cards and 36 red cards have been issued as of the end of the Match Day 22 games.
"After 240 GloNPFL matches, a total of 480 goals have been scored, averaging 2 goals per game. After Match Day 22 in the GloNPFL, 777 yellow cards & 36 red cards have been issued out so far this season," the LMC tweeted on Tuesday.
Out of the 480 goals, the top three teams in the league table have scored a total of the 97, with league leaders Enyimba scoring 31 goals and conceding 20; Sunshine Stars scoring 32 and conceding 19; and Warri Wolves scoring 34 and conceding 21.
On Sunday, Match Day 23, Enyimba will be away to Bayelsa United; Sunshine will face Giwa at home; while Warri Wolves will play Dolphins at home.
Shooting Stars will seek another away win against Kano Pillars; Lobi Stars will host Taraba; Nasarawa will battle wounded Heartland; Abia warriors will face El Kanemi Warriors at home; Wikki Tourists would be away to Kwara United; Akwa United will face Sharks at home; while Enugu Rangers will play IfeanyiUbah in an Oriental derby.
