Kwara government pledges to vacate Unilorin mini campus in 3 months
The Kwara Government has promised to vacate the mini campus of the University of Ilorin in three months after it forcibly occupied the property in June.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Abdulganiyu Ambali, made this known while speaking in Abuja on Sunday.
Prof. Ambali said the state government gave the promise in a letter to the university and at a meeting with the authorities of the university.
"This is to acknowledge receipt of the letter written by Kwara State Government on the mini campus and to thank them, and accordingly intimate my parent ministry of the development.
"What I am saying is that their response in terms of the occupation of the place, they ask for three months grace to temporarily house their Board of Internal Revenue.
"That after three months, they are to vacate the place, so we wait until the three months before we can now conclude that the crisis is over and resolved," he said.
Meanwhile, the Kwara Government also said it has resolved the controversy.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Wahab Oba, in a press statement, said the issue was resolved during a meeting between the university authorities and government representatives.
He said the meeting was attended by Mr. Ambali, the university's Vice Chancellor and Isiaka Gold, who led government delegation.
The Kwara Government had allegedly invaded the campus and sacked its occupants on June 25 with armed personnel.
The university appealed to the Federal Government to intervene and reclaim the premises, where it operates its sandwich programmes.
The Old Kwara government, in 1975, donated the facility as a temporary site to meet part of the condition to site the institution in Ilorin.
There was, however, no agreement that the university would relinquish the property to the state government.
