A 27-year-old student of a higher institution in Kwara State, Ibrahim Odetoro, has been remanded in prison by an Ilorin Magistrate Court over alleged attempt to commit culpable homicide.

The suspect was arraigned for charges of criminal conspiracy, intimidation, attempt to commit culpable homicide and illegal possession of firearm, contrary to Sections 97, 397, 229 of Penal Code Law and 1 (3) of Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap RII Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the matter was consequent upon a report at 'D' Division police station by one Raji Ayo Sheriff, another student that he received a threat text message from the suspect. The complainant reported the same to the school authority, but he was advised to report to the police.

The complainant alleged that he was opposite the institution when the suspect and four others attacked him, but that he escaped when they wanted to fire shots at him.

The FIR added: "That police operatives swung into action and apprehended Ibrahim Odetoro with one locally made pistol, three cartridges and charm. Police investigation revealed that you Ibrahim Odetoro criminally conspired with one Sodiq aka Solo, Tunde aka Tobo,Tunji and others tried to kill Raji with locally made pistol".

The suspect pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The police prosecutor, Sanni Abdullahi, told the court that investigation in the matter is still ongoing and pleaded that the accused be remanded in prison custody.

In his ruling, Mrs M.B Mogaji ordered remand of the suspect at Federal Prison, Mandalla. The matter was adjourned till July 31 for further mention.
