Ritualist, alfa arrested in Ilorin while trying to use elderly woman
A 32 year old suspected ritualist has been arrested in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The man simply identified as Kelechi was picked up on Sunday night at Mejindadi Street, Ilorin while attempting to use an old woman for ritual purpose.
It was gathered that the suspect kidnapped the woman at Agbabiaka, Ago Market and kept her somewhere around Unity road. But luck ran against him on Sunday night in his attempt to take the woman to his herbalist popularly known as Alfa Buaya as members of Ita-Amodu community surveillance team accosted him with suspicious response.
The herbalist, who resides around Agbo-Oba Area was said to have asked Kelechi to bring a lady to him to perfect his ritual plan.
They are currently being detained at Surulere B Division of the state Police Command.
A member of surveillance team, who spoke to newsmen, said the suspected ritualist confessed to them that he wanted to use the old woman for ritual to start his business.
He said, "We saw the guy (suspect) backing an old woman around 11:30pm on Sunday. He was tired and we tried to assist him. And then we asked him what happened to the woman because she looked frail and emaciated. We thought he was taking her to a hospital around Oja-Iya.
"And so he started responding in Pidgin English while the woman was just saying Agbabiaka, somewhere around Ago Market. It was in that process that we discovered that the suspect is an Igbo man. We asked him again, where were you taking the old woman to, he was trying to play smart."
"As we were trying to take him to Police Station, coincidentally, a patrol team came around and we put him in their vehicle. And so we tried to cross-examine him in the patrol vehicle while Policemen were listening to us. He said if we could assist him, he was ready to cooperate.
"It was at that point he confessed that he was actually taking the woman to one cleric called Alfa Buaya around Agbo-Oba so that he could help him use the woman for ritual purpose so that he could start his own business because he graduated from his boss two years ago. So we went for the cleric too. He attempted to evade us but eventually we were able to pick him up with the help of the Police operatives.
"Because we want the case to be thoroughly probed, we involved IEDPU National executives. And we will not relent, we will continue to monitor them until the case reaches logical conclusion".
