Kwara State Executive Council approves upgrade of Stadium Complex and construction of Ganmo-Afon Rd
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Ben Duntoye disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the maiden meeting of the Executive Council this year.
According to Duntoye, the renovation and upgrade of the Stadium Complex, which is to gulp the sum of N1.3 billion has been awarded to Arom Nigeria Limited with 48 weeks as the completion period.
He disclosed further that out of the total contract sum, 1N billion would be sourced from the N17 billion bond approved by the State Government, adding that 30% of the total sum would be paid to the contractor as mobilization.
The Ganmo-Afon road, the Commissioner explained, has been awarded to Bal Engineering Limited at a cost of over N618 Million for a completion period of ten months.
Speaking further on renovation and upgrade of the Stadium Complex, Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Dr Abubakar Kannike said it will encompass reconstruction and redesign from the present 9,000 sitting capacity to 18,000.
The Stadium, he stated further, would be upgraded to a FIFA standard and would include facilities such as residential cubicle, press gallery, changing room, mixed zone and flood lights, among others.
He also disclosed that the renovation work would not affect Students of the Football Academy , pointing out that the construction would be done in such a way to accommodate the use of the Stadium by players of Kwara United and Bukola Babes Football Clubs at least in the next three months.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engineer Abdulrauf Kola Shittu expressed delight that construction and upgrading of roads in the State in the last six months was unprecedented, which he noted, had contributed to the socio-economic development of the Sate.
The Ganmoâ€"Afon road, he said, would be of asphalt overlay and would include standard drainages on both sides to prolong the life span of the road.
