KWSG expends N3b on empowerment
Kwara State Government has committed about N3billion to the state's revolving micro credit scheme since the commencement of the present administration, the state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has disclosed.
This, according to the governor included the disbursement of N250m to multipurpose cooperatives, provision of N150m to Kwara State Artisans Congress, N100m for market men and women, N215m for Outgrower Farmers and the ongoing disbursement of N2b in micro credit to other small business owners in the state.
Governor Ahmed who made the disclosure in Ilorin during the flag-off of the second phase of the state government's empowerment to transporters with the provision of 50 taxis and 20 buses said the intention was to positively inject the state's economy and make it active.
The governor who stressed the importance of informal sector to economic growth said "it also has capacity to uplift lives of millions of people who earn their living in that sector".
According to the governor, "this ceremony holds particular significance for me because it provides further demonstration of our unyielding commitment to enhancing the material well-being of the greatest number of our people.
"I am also encouraged by the number of lives transformed through our earlier interventions in the transport and other sectors of our economy".
These interventions, the governor said would also demonstrate government's capacity and willingness to do more for the state and its people.
"With this empowerment programme, we provide further demonstration that we hold our people very dear. Whatever promises we make to the people, we fulfill to the people.
"This N75m empowerment scheme for transporters adds to the list of life transforming programs by this administration in nearly four years".
The governor who expressed gratitude to the people of the state for their support and solidarity further sought their support for his re-election.
The Special Assistant, Transport Affairs, Arc Akanbi Lamidi in his remark disclosed that the state governor had approved the establishment of the Kwara State Driving institute(KWADRI) to train and retrain drivers as part of government's efforts to re-energise the transport industry.
He also advised drivers and transport owners to be more serious and dedicated to their professional calling and also be serious.
Alhaji Abdulrasheed Ariyo who spoke on behalf of the transporters expressed gratitude to the governor and assured him their unalloyed support to ensure his re-election.
